As nature begins to blossom across our beautiful countryside, we felt inspired to compile a list of some of our favourite things to do during spring. After the long winter months we love to spend as much time as possible outdoors visiting and exploring some of the incredible places that surround our properties.

We hope you enjoy stepping into the new season with this short guide to the best spring spots and events across Cornwall, Devon and the Cotswolds.




Mother’s day garden trail at…
Trengwainton Garden

Located near Penzance in Cornwall, Trengwainton is a sheltered garden bursting with exotic trees and shrubs. Thanks to its warm climate, this thriving and abundant garden is home to some of Britain’s most beautiful plants and flowers. With award-winning magnolias, rhododendrons, and exotic species from around the world, the garden’s winding paths will take you on a journey towards the sea views across Mount’s Bay. The Mother’s Day Garden Trail is a special opportunity to experience the serenity of this setting, whilst discovering the stories of the women who have helped to care for the plants here.

May day celebrations at…
St Ives

St Ives welcomes the arrival of spring with their annual May Day Festival. Celebrating Cornish heritage and local customs, the festivities include a parade to the harbour, May pole dancing and a lively market where you can stock up on some of the region’s finest produce. Local choirs and brass bands perform throughout the day, making this a fun and vibrant event for all the family.

Salt water swimming at…
Jubilee Pool

Cornwall’s celebrated Art Deco lido on Penzance’s promenade is the perfect place to welcome warmer days and experience the benefits of swimming in fresh salt-water. Re-opening in May after its winter closure, they have been developing an exciting geothermal project that will allow visitors to swim in the pool all year round.

Making history at…
Powderham Castle

Powderham Castle lies in a beautiful deer park on the banks of the River Exe, just a short drive from the historic city of Exeter. Since it’s opening to the public in 1959, guests have been able to enjoy the incredible history and heritage of one of Devon’s most loved properties. The grounds and castle have been exceptionally maintained, and there are now many more attractions for visitors of all ages to enjoy. This year’s open day will be a great opportunity to explore the castle with a guided tour and deer park safari.

Rosemoor spring flower festival

In the heart of the Torridge Valley, the Rosemoor Gardens are a magical place to watch the landscape transform during spring. Rich in horticultural heritage, this multi-faceted garden is also home to a lake, orchard, fruit and vegetable garden. Their annual Spring Flower Festival is an inspiring opportunity to see the beautiful Cherry Trees in blossom, while exploring the displays from competitors all over the southwest. With a focus on camellias, early magnolias and rhododendrons, the show will also include workshops on ornamental shrubs and a Rosemoor daffodil and hyacinth competition.

New life at…
Daylesford farm lambing tours

In early spring Daylesford Farm invites guests to experience the magic of lambing season. Celebrating the arrival of new life, their lambing tours are a special opportunity to meet the ewes and lambs that are housed in the barns until the weather turns a little warmer. Daylesford Senior Farm Manager and resident shepherds guide visitors through the lambing process, providing expert insight into this wonderful time of year.

Chipping norton literary festvial

This spring, the Cotswolds market town of Chipping Norton welcomes an inspiring group of authors, publishers, booksellers and literary agents to its annual Literary Festival. With an exciting line-up, the festival includes book swaps, reading corners, workshops and discussion forums. Much loved for its vibrant atmosphere, the festival is a wonderful opportunity to experience the communal spirit of this charming town.
